Matthew R. Mead

Matthew R. Mead is a founding partner of the firm and has served as its Managing Partner since 1994. His focus is the defense of workers’ compensation claims and compliance with workers’ compensation law, regulations, and procedure.

Matt received his law degree from Albany Law School in 1985. He is licensed to practice in New York and a member of the New York State Bar Association. He represents insurance companies, third-party claim administrators, self-insured employers, and uninsured employers. He serves as the qualifying officer for several New York licensed third-party claim administrators. He counsels businesses and individuals on compliance with the New York Workers’ Compensation Law and assists those who are penalized for non-compliance.

Mederic J. Ethier III

Mederic J. Ethier III has been a partner in the firm since 2002. Before becoming a partner, he was an associate attorney of the firm beginning in 1995. His focus is the defense of workers’ compensation claims.

Med received his law degree from Albany Law School. He is licensed to practice in New York and a member of the New York State Bar Association. He represents insurance companies, third-party claim administrators, and self-insured employers.

William M. Pausley

William M. Pausley has been a partner in the firm since 2002. Before becoming a partner, he was an associate attorney of the firm beginning in 1996. His focus is the defense of workers’ compensation claims.

Bill received his law degree from Albany Law School. He is licensed to practice in New York and a member of the New York State Bar Association. He represents insurance companies, third-party claim administrators, and self-insured employers.

Bill served as a volunteer firefighter for eighteen years, responding to hundreds of emergency calls. During his service he received extensive specialized emergency response training including hazardous material incident response, vehicle extrication, confined space rescue, and firefighter assistance and search team operations. Bill served as an elected Fire Commissioner for five years and was President of his fire company. His experience provides a helpful background when representing municipalities and fire districts in claims involving first responders under the Worker’s Compensation Law, the Volunteer Firefighters Benefit Law, and the Volunteer Ambulance Workers Law.

John B. Paniccia

John B. Paniccia has been a partner in the firm since 2007. Before becoming a partner, he was an associate attorney of the Firm beginning in 1998. His focus is defense of Personal Injury lawsuits, Property Damage lawsuits, and defense of Worker’s Compensation claims. John also has experience handling criminal law matters including DWI.

John received his law degree from Cooley Law School. He is licensed to practice in New York and is a member of the New York State Bar Association. He represents insurance companies, third-party claim administrators, and self-insured entities. Outside of work John enjoys running and traveling.

Shawn W. Yerdon

Shawn W. Yerdon has been a partner in the firm since 2012. Before becoming a partner, he was an associate attorney of the firm beginning in 2002. His focus is the defense of workers’ compensation claims.

Shawn received his law degree from Albany Law School. He is licensed to practice in New York and a member of the New York State Bar Association. He represents insurance companies, third-party claim administrators, and self-insured employers.

SEAN WEBER

Sean Weber received his law degree from Albany Law School where he was an executive editor on the Law Review and an elected member of the Student Bar Association.  He began his career with the firm in 2014 and was promoted to partner in 2022.

In his early years, Sean interned with many employers, including various legal offices in Monroe County, Rensselaer County, and Columbia County—he also has experience interning at an oldies radio station and a television network.  His prior employments include government work, insurance sales, youth counseling, and working in a law library.

However, Sean’s focus now is on the defense of workers’ compensation claims.  Throughout his career, he has handled thousands of hearings and depositions, including appellate-level work, and has conducted seminars and CLEs instructing others on the field of workers’ compensation.  He has vast experience in representing insurance carriers, self-insured employers, and third-party administrators.

Sean is licensed to practice in the State of New York and is a member of the New York State Bar Association.

Nicholas M. Herubin

Nicholas M. Herubin has been a partner in the firm since 2022. Before becoming a partner, he was an associate attorney of the firm beginning in 2015. His focus is the defense of workers’ compensation claims. Prior to joining Stockton Barker & Mead, he worked at a large national firm in Albany focusing on corporate litigation.

Nick received his law degree from Albany Law School in 2013. Prior to attending law school, he received a degree from Le Moyne College in Syracuse in 2010. He is a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Albany. Nick is licensed to practice in New York State. He represents insurance companies, third-party claim administrators, and self-insured employers. In addition to workers compensation practice, he is also a public arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

Nick has an Irish citizenship and is a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Albany. While in college, he spent a semester working for a member of parliament at the Irish National Parliament in Dublin. He is also a Colonel in the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

Emily A. Gray

Emily A. Gray joined the firm as an associate attorney in 2022. Prior to joining the firm, she was an associate attorney at Hancock Estabrook, LLP in Syracuse, New York. Emily also spent 3 years interning at the Department of Health in the Bureau of Professional Medical Conduct. Her focus is on the defense of workers’ compensation claims with experience representing insurance carriers, self-insured employers, and third-party administrators.

Emily received her law degree from Albany Law School in 2020. Prior to attending Albany Law School, Emily graduated with a degree in History from Hartwick College in 2017. While at Albany Law School, Emily joined the Albany Law Review and served on the Executive Board. Emily has had two papers published. One in the Albany Law Review: Chief Judge Janet DiFiore: Pushing New York Court System Forward, 83.4 Alb. L. Rev. 1187 (2019/2020). The second was published with the Center for Judicial Process: Election or Appointment: Selecting New York State Court of Appeals Judges, https://judicialprocessblog.blogspot.com/search?q=Emily+Gray (2021). Emily is currently licensed in New York State and is a member of the New York State Bar Association.

In the winter, Emily travels to the Catskills where she enjoys skiing. Emily taught skiing to 3-7 years old for 11 years. In the past, Emily also participated in Veteran’s Law Day in Syracuse where she drafted Wills and advance directives for Veterans. Emily also brings her dog, Minnie, to work most days of the week so that Minnie can fulfill her role as the K-9 in Chief of the office.
